Custom Portrait Commissions
A portrait commission differs from a standard portrait session. While both are artistic, creative, and personal, they differ both in philosophy, process, and materials. |
|
The process of shooting a commissioned portrait goes hand-in-hand with the artists' materials. These traditional materials and tools include a 4x5 bellows camera, various medium-format cameras, Polaroids, black-and-white films, and digital media. (Other media may also be introduced, depending on your interests: encaustic painting materials, printmaking techniques, and alternative photographic processes.) The portrait session is shot in a relaxed manner, using natural light, on location (in your home, a park, an urban or rural setting, etc.), chosen in consultation with you. Once completed, the artwork is hand-processed by the artist to exacting standards.

Further consultation with you determines the final product: hand-printed enlargements, carbon prints, toning, handmade books, further manipulation in other media (such as encaustic, printmaking, etc.), custom framing, and more. Each commission is unique, and great attention is paid to every detail. Each of Fritz's Commissioned Portrait Sessions is unique, and thus is individually priced in consultation with you. Sessions begin at $500, and finished packages generally range from $750 to $1500. Please call or write with your questions, ideas, or to schedule a consultation. |
